It is believed that it is the second most read book in the world after The Bible. It has been translated from Spanish into almost all the languages of the world. The complete two-voulme book has been translated from Spanish into Hindi by an eminent scholar of Spanish literature, Prof. Vibha Maurya, formerly the Head, Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi.

Its author, Miguel De Cervantes, has portrayed the diverse aspects of society so truthfully, so powerfully that the novel is as relevant today as it was in 16^th century. This is what makes it to cross the boundaries of time and space so vibrantly. The novel is a unique repository of rich humour, amusing scenes and episodes as well as of a vivid portrayal of human prides and prejudices.
